Adjectives
An adjective describes or modifies a noun. It tells us what kind, how many, or which one.
- The tall tree. / Three red apples. / A happy child.
Adjectives can appear before a noun (a cold day) or after a linking verb (The day was cold).
Comparatives and Superlatives
Use comparative adjectives to compare two things, and superlatives to compare three or more.

Adverbs
An adverb modifies a verb, adjective, or another adverb. Many adverbs end in -ly.
- Modifying a verb: She sang beautifully.
- Modifying an adjective: The soup was incredibly hot.
- Modifying an adverb: He ran very quickly.
Adverbs can tell us how, when, where, or to what degree something happened.
